There are several other early, but unverified, claims to the bicycle invention, but the Draisine, designed by Baron Karl von Drais in 1816 is the earliest verified invention.

The first "Modern" Bicycle is believed to have been built by a Scottish blacksmith, Kirkpatrick MacMillan, in 1839.
