The "highest" mountain and the mountain furthest from the earths center are not the same mountain...
Everyone knows that Mt. Everest is the "highest" mountain in the world. However, "highest" is measured as distance above sea level, not distance from the center of the earth.
An inactive statovolcano in the Andes Mountains known as Mt. Chimborazo holds the distinction of being the furthest from the center of the earth. The main reason for this is because of its location on the equatorial bulge.
Mt. Chimborazo, located in Ecuador is 6,384 km (3,967 mi) from the Earth's center, which is 2,168 m (7,113 ft) farther than Everest which is 6,382 km (3,965 mi) from the Earth's center. It has an elevation of 6,268 meters (20,564 ft); 2,600 meters (8,500 ft) less than Mt. Everest which has an elevation of 8,848 meters (29,029 ft).
That being said, Chimborazo is still the highest mountain in Ecuador and is the highest peak near the equator.
