At birth, the ratio of Male to Female is approximately 50/50, no different than the world average. The large difference is thought to be due to WWII and the subsequent wars in which millions of Russian men lost their lives.
By comparison, in the United States, there are 5 million more women than there are men; but the population of the US is almost double that of Russia. In short, in Russia there are about .86 men for every woman, and in the US there are .96 men for every woman...a staggering difference!
