Harry Houdini was one of the first Private Pilots in the World.
After developing a passion for aviation while in Europe in 1909, Houdini purchased a French-made biplan and became one of the world's first private pilots.
Unfortunately, during the maiden flight, the plan crashed. But Houdini did not give up there, he then set his sights on being the first man to pilot an airplane in Australia.
In March of 1910, Houdini made three successful flights near Melbourne (each a couple of minutes long) and officially piloted the country's first power flight. Some believe that Colin Defries did this a few months prior to Houdini, but are unable to provide creditable documentation.
